Wonky Teeth?
Is it okay to have crooked teeth?
Well, there's nothing “wrong” about a crooked smile, but studies have shown that having a beautiful smile will boost self confidence and self-image , and in this day and age that’s good to have…. this is true for children, teens and adults.
But crooked teeth can cause significant oral health issues, primarily because they're harder to clean effectively, poor oral hygiene often leads to tooth decay, gum disease and bad breath.
A nice smile, after all, beats other great features. As a dentist we see a huge increase in people wishing to improve their smiles for this reason.
The history….Modern diets are in general depleted in vitamins and minerals , and in especially low in vitamin D3 and K2. This causes reduced jaw development right from conception and in the growing foetus leading to crooked teeth and undeveloped faces. Correct jaw development means wide symmetrical jaws and plenty of room for teeth to erupt in optimal alignment. Before the modern age we spent far more time in the great outdoors, in the field hunting and growing real food in the sunshine when the sunblock chemicals creams did not exist, this means we used to have far more vitamin D from food free of preservatives and sunshine on our skin which in turn produced more ideal jaws and faces.
Options for straightening your teeth
• Fixed bracket appliances
These are made up of metal brackets that are attached to the teeth with flexible wire, and bands. The attached wire slowly aligns the teeth. Metal braces are more affordable to use compared to other types of braces and excellent in their effects. Ceramic fixed appliances may be less noticeable, but they are more expensive than metal braces and they have various disadvantages and so are as such inferior to the metal brackets.
• Invisible aligners
Invisible braces are clear plastic aligners made by digital planning. This type of braces are more comfortable than traditional brace and removed for meals. The aligner is replaced every 7-10 days. This type may not be recommended to correct severely misaligned teeth.
• Cosmetic dentistry
Cosmetic techniques can be used to straighten teeth in certain cases. By using veneers, crowns or composit bonding the teeth can be enhanced and made to look aligned without actually moving them. If favourable then of course this is a much quicker treatment
