HELP of Marina Alta would like to thank everyone who has supported their fund raising and collections for the people of Valencia.

On the 29th of October the DANA flooding hit many towns around Valencia. On Sunday 3rd November we took the loaded HELP van along with Danny from Bay Radio in his over packed Jeep pulling a trailer packed to the gunnels, and set off for Algemesi. We took cleaning products, food, water, new warm jackets, nappies, baby food and anything we thought the people may have needed.
It was horrendous that first trip. Mud everywhere you looked, including the people, covered in mud and their clothes soaked as they battled to reach the depots for fresh water and some food and material to help them clean. Once unloaded we were asked to load up again and go street by street dropping of the food parcels we had been given. It was a very emotional day.
We returned again on the Wednesday but this time with much needed cleaning equipment. New large brooms, scrapers, mop heads, lots of wellington boots, hot water bottles, bleach, water, new wheelbarrows, wheelchairs, walkers etc. This time we went in a bigger van from SR Print and again with Danny. When we reached Alchemesi we found the water gone but mud still piled everywhere. We had to go to three depots being controlled by the army before we could drop off. People arrived in smaller vehicles and took goods from us to take direct to the families.
Since then we have received over 30,000€ and collected goods, furniture and continue to do what we can to help the people so badly affected by the floods. We have bought over 30 new gas heaters, fridges, freezers, new beds, karchers, dehumidifiers, tumble dryers, a special recliner chair for an elderly lady who lost hers in the flood. We have replaced bed bases with storage and wardrobes. We purchased and donated over 4500€ to the Christmas toys and gift appeal also for children of Valencia.
More heaters, dehumidifiers and white goods have to be sent up too. We really want people to know that there is still much to do to help the people get their homes back into liveable conditions. If they want to help us do this then they can donate to our "Valencia Underwater Fund", La CAIXA, HELP de Denia y Distrito, ES11 2100 9015 2102 0016 2933. Also if you would like to donate good condition furniture items then let us know on 634 345 014.
The water damage has been so bad that the walls have to be stripped bare, back to the brick before they can replaster and paint. This is a long process and we hope they will eventually receive monies from the government and insurances payments if possible, but for now they are struggling with no help and need to get their lives back. Thank you for any help you can give.
