International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
November has within it a special week for women. The week around 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, is dedicated to raising awareness of gender violence (also called domestic violence) and to the women and the bereaved children. In Spain this week is known as 25N. Already in Spain 35 women have been murdered this year by someone close to them - husband, partner, ex boyfriend.
The European Union of Women Marina Alta is cooperating with local councils in order to bring to the notice of all women, especially those not speaking Spanish, the help which is available to them and the ways in which they might avoid abuse.
By meetings and demonstrations, by workshops and screening of films we can also say to the men and boys in our communities 'Stop! That's enough!', we all have a responsibility to respect our women and stop these murders.
